With all of us being in self-isolation, we’re spending an unprecedented amount of time at home. As things look uncertain outside, we want to help you create the ideal space inside. We’ve created a little guide to make sure that you’re keeping healthy whilst getting the most of your time at home.
As our working environments change, it’s important to have a proper working space with a chair and desk, not only to maintain your all-important posture but also to help organise your mind for better productivity and creativity.
Make sure your chair is ergonomic so it can adjust to the correct desk height, as well as support your body as you work. You can raise your legs up further by having an adjustable footrest which decreases the strain on your lower back by supplying additional support.
Having a desk is essential and one with built-in storage will keep your desk and mind neat and tidy. If you’re short on space, flexible solutions like a 2-in-1 desk and bookshelf are also worth considering. The desk part of it simply folds out when you need it and seamlessly folds back into the bookshelf when not in use.
It’s best to place your work area in an open space that has a lot of natural light. This will subconsciously open up your mind too for better productivity.

Spending your entire day indoors will have an impact on your physical and mental health. They’re both just as important to maintain a healthy balance in both. Social distancing does not mean you have to disconnect completely. Stay connected. Pick up the phone to call your parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles to make sure they’re doing okay. We, humans, are social creatures so every interaction, every sound of your voice during these times will help a great deal.
Practise mindfulness activities such as meditation or yoga. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware and present in the moment, stepping away from the outside world and focusing on yourself. Apps such as ‘Headspace’ or ‘Calm’ make it easy to maintain a daily dose of meditation and peace of mind therapy.
The government encourages us to do exercise at least once a day by going for a run, cycle or walk. Exercise boosts the production of the ‘feel-good chemical’ endorphin in our brain, so not only are we physically fitter but mentally too.
